RACE REPORT
James Daly entered two in the race, but declared to win on Ayn Hali, as was the custom in those days, and it was therefore installed as the odds on favourite. Lying up with the early pace, all seemed well with the favourite, but 2 furlongs from home she was in dire trouble and dropped tamely away. This enabled her stable companion Melmond to take the lead momentarily, but approaching the distance she was challenged by Catch Crop and Captive Princess. A tense battle ensued before Captive Princess gut up on the line by a short head, with a length and a half back to Melmond. Given Captive Princess was unplaced in the Irish Derby suggests that the form is moderate. |
